IOX AROSA Ski Resort – Overview
This resort is located in Toyama prefecture on mr Okuiou. How did they get the name IOX Arosa? IO is for Mr Iou and the X stands for “unknown possibilities”. Arosa is named after the Arosa Ski Resort in Switzerland. A friendship agreement was signed the Swiss Arosa Ski Resort in 1991. IOX Arosa started operating from December of that same year, 1991. As such, the general theme at this mountain is “Switxerland”. In fact, there is a Swiss-style cottage called “IOX Wald” which was built in 1992.
Is Night Skiing Available?
Yes, there is night skiing at IOX Arosa! In fact, IOX Arosa has quite a history when it comes to night skiing. Throughout Japan, most night skiing is limited to a fraction of its pistes. This usually means limiting the runs to the runs closer to the base of the mountain, however, IOX Arosa is lit up everywhere… although it really isn’t a large mountain. Quite is quite rare is that you can take the gondola to the top of the resort and ski. Their mountain wide night skiing opened in 1998. Night skiing goes until 9pm, normally. Always check before planning your trip.

The resort is usually open from mid Dec to mid March. For the 23/24 season, it was open from Dec 22, 2023 to Mar 10, 2024.

First lift is as early as 0800hrs and last lift as late as 1630hrs. Times vary slightly between weekdays and weekends.

There are 2 cottages for rent called the “IOX Wald” cottages. There are very close to the resort and you can walk there in about 3 minutes. The bath water is “onsen” water.
There is also the Sakuragaike Kua Garden Hotel which is about a 13 minute drive from the resort. You’ll enjoy their poll and spa.

There’s a kid’s room and bathing facilities including a hot spring bath called “IOX Kurm”.

There is parking for about 1,500 vehicles. It is free.
