Pirika Ski Resort – Overview
This ski resort has one lift with several runs cut around it. Everything faces north so the snow quality can be very good. This is one of few ski resorts in Sothern Hokkaido. In fact, there is only 1 other ski reosrt, Suttsu Town Ski Area, within 50 km (straight line distance though). Although very small in scale, there is a park, bumps, steep slopes, and uncompacted snow. They offer reasonably priced lift tickets, and there are no crowds.
Ski Season Length
Typically, the resort is open from the mid to late December to late March. In the 2023 season, the resort opened Dec 23 and closed Mar 24. Target open date for the 24/25 season is Dec 21, 2024
Hours of Operation
The lifts are open from 0900hrs to 1600hrs from Dec to the end of February. There is night skiing, too. In March, daytime skiing is available only on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.
Is Night Skiing Available at Pirika?
Yes, there is night skiing at Pirika Ski Resort. In January and February, they normally offer it on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays until 2100 hours. In March, daytime skiing is only on Saturdays and Sundays. There is only nighttime skiing during the week in March and only offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Snow Park
A snow park with kickers and boxes equips the upper part of the family course.
Off Piste
Although not off-piste, they leave a good portion of the runs ungroomed.
Lift Tickets
The good news is that they offer tickets at very reasonable prices here. Senior tickets start from 55 yrs and up. 55 years old is senior? Well, if there is a discount, who cares?

There is a kid’s area to learn how to ski. You can also use sleds in the same area.
Onsen
There is a hot spring facility “KurPlaza Pirika” with accommodation facilities at the base.
Cafeteria / Restaraunts
There is one main eatery, Kamigaoka Dining. There is a good mix of western and Japanese food. You can eat in or take out. You can also buy lunch boxes at the resort.
Rentals
There are ski and snowboard rentals available, including ski and snowboard wear.
Ski & Snowboard Schools
There are ski and snowboard schools available. The school is certified by the Ski Association of Japan (SAJ). Regular certification tests are also available.

There is a hotel at the base, “KurPlaza Pirika”
Parking
There is parking for about 150 vehicles, and it is free.
